உலகின் மிக முக்கிய நீர்வழிப்பாதைகளில் ஒன்றாக ஓமன் வளைகுடாவில் உள்ள ஹார்மஸ் ஜலசந்தி கருதப்படுகிறது. இதன் வழியாக உலகின் ஐந்தில் ஒரு பங்கு கச்சா எண்ணெய் கப்பல் மூலம் இவ்வழியாகவே எடுத்துச் செல்லப்படுகிறது. இதனிடையே ஹார்மஸ் ஜலசந்தி அருகே உள்ள பந்தர் இ ஜஸ்க் பகுதியில் நேற்று ஈரான் போர் கப்பல்கள் பயிற்சியில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தன. அப்போது அதில் ஒரு கப்பல் ஏவுகணை சோதனையில் ஈடுபட்டது. அந்த ஏவுகணை தண்ணீருக்கு அடியில் இலக்கு வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. 

அப்போது கொனாரக் என்ற மற்றொரு ஈரான் போர் கப்பலும் அப்பகுதியில் நின்று கொண்டிருந்தது. இதனை அடுத்து முதல் ஒரு கப்பலில் இருந்து குறிப்பிட்ட இலக்கை நோக்கி ஏவுகணை ஏவப்பட்டது. ஆனால் ஏவுகணை இருந்த இடத்திற்கும், இலக்கிற்கும் இடையே போதுமான இடைவெளி இல்லாததால் அருகில் நின்று கொண்டிருந்த கொனாரக் கப்பலை ஏவுகணை தாக்கியது. இந்த விபத்தில் 19 வீரர்கள் சம்பவ இடத்திலேயே உயிரிழந்தனர். மேலும் படுகாயமடைந்த 15 பேர் மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர். 

இந்த தாக்குதலில் பலத்த சேதமடைந்த கொனாரக் கப்பல் நீரில் மூழ்கி வருவதாகவும் அதில் இருந்த கப்பல் ஊழியர்களின் நிலை தெரியவில்லை என ஈரான் ஊடகங்களில் செய்திகள் வெளியாகி வருகின்றன, கொனாரக் கப்பல் 47 மீட்டர் நீளமும் 154 அடியும் உடைய ஆயுத தளவாடங்களை ஏந்திச்செல்லும் கப்பலாகும். இது நெதர்லாந்தில் தயாரிக்கப்பட்டு 1979 ஆம் ஆண்டு இஸ்லாமிய புரட்சிக்கு முன்னர் ஈரானால் வாங்கப்பட்டது..
